Time on my hands

A spot of self-isolation due to a certain pandemic - you may have heard about it - curtailed plans on leaving the house. So I used the time to dig out some old images I’d not got around to editing.
I suspect I'm not the only photographer to have photos from great locations which, for some reason or another, didn't make the cut at the time or we just got busy and added to a to-do list. Whatever the reason, it's great to revisit, remember some great experiences and hopefully find some good shots!
Week Five - Editing some unloved images

Location 1 - Kilchurn Castle, Loch Awe, Scottish Highlands
I’m not sure what the collective noun for photographers is? A gaggle? Maybe a snap?
Anyway, a group of us traipsed from a nearby lay-by down a very muddy (read swampy) path pre sunrise, hopeful of a dramatic sunrise over the loch and the ruins of Kilchurn castle opposite. The concentration was almost palpable as everyone was hoping to arrive not covered head to toe in a muddy mess.
Forming an orderly line at the lake edge, I could fully appreciate just how stunning the Scottish Highlands are in autumn. The landscape is covered in russet brown and even the name - Lock Awe - does sort of set expectations for something pretty spectacular, doesn’t it?
Right on cue, the swirling mist appeared and the sun broke through, lighting up the hilltop before moving towards the castle.
I'm not quite sure how, but we all managed to get back to our cars unscathed and with our boots still on our feet :)

Location 2: Isle of Mainau, Lake Konstanz, Germany
Whilst exploring in Munich and southern Germany last autumn, I visited this island in the middle of Lake Constance. The island has beautiful rose gardens, a baroque palace and church, an orchid house and butterfly house plus ancient trees and woodland. All in all, it's quite the fairytale experience.
After a day exploring, I was heading for a hot drink and some ice cream and spotted this lady sat just enjoying the autumnal sun on her face and the view - her red jacket nicely contrasting with the background.

Location 3: BMW Welt, Munich
This, along with some of the Underground Stations, quickly became my favourite locations in Munich.
The modern architecture of the BMW Welt (World) building looks great during the day, but even better at night. This houses all of the new cars from the current BMW brands and is just as stunning on the inside. The brutalist towers in the background are BMW's Headquarters (since 1973) and provide a fabulous contrast. In between, there is the BMW museum showcasing the cars from their history.
There are just so many possible photo opportunities here and, as you would expect, there were plenty of other photographers here too. I was stood amongst a class of kids on a bridge taking this shot :)
In Summary:
It was really good to rediscover photos from past trips and reminded me to complete some unfinished projects.
Nevertheless, I am definitely looking forward to leaving the house and exploring again!

The Scottish Highlands trip was a photography workshop run by my friend Tom:
What kind of editing went into them? They look pretty stunning but not heavily handed.
