Rainy Days and Mondays

Those who are seriously popular Insta 'creators' and loved by the yoooof, are mad for some rainy street photography - @northborders, @7thEra, @opticalwander etc.

So I wondered if you can you teach an old dog new tricks and headed out towards a very soggy London Bridge, Bermondsey Street and Borough Market for some inspiration.

I was ‘on the clock’ as I had 45 minutes before meeting some work colleagues for dinner, so the stop watch was ticking…

Location 1: London Bridge Station

Why is it that when you want someone with an umbrella to walk past you, they are nowhere to be seen? I waited patiently underneath the bridge, but to no avail, so took this and moved on swiftly.

Location 2: St Thomas Street, London

Eureka! A person with not only a brolley, but a nicely contrasting red one too.

Some soggy patience was required here :). I picked my spot and loitered until an umbrella clad person walked by trying to capture them as they were lit by the restaurant behind.

Location 3 - Borough High Street

I could see the traffic waiting at the lights, so sought a suitably sized puddle for some reflections without the unplanned bonus of a shower as the traffic passed by :)

Some passing buses kindly provided the desired shots just as my 45 minutes came to an end.

Time to dry off, enjoy a drink and some hot food.

In Summary:

I can see the attraction. Rainy street photography could be very addictive and although having a finite time to produce 3 images was good, a much longer meander through London Town would also have been useful.

Luckily, London isn’t short of the wet stuff, so one idea to pick up on again later in the year.

Next week: Cool Cafés
