Light Me Up

It's been a bit of challenge keeping up with writing the blog over the last few weeks due to much travel (first world problems). Trips that have been postponed for more than two years have now all come at once!

Nevertheless, the challenges have all been happening, but I need a little time to do the 'writing' bit :)

So - to this week's challenge - Neon. Call me retro, but I do love a bit of neon lettering. The sheer variety and the cool light it provides. Just sooo moody.

Week Six - All about Neon

Location 1 - Picturehouse Central, Piccadilly Circus

I headed out on a Saturday pm for a SoHo wander and arrived at this cinema by Piccadilly Circus with a model shoot in progress. There was a lady in a very retro outfit surrounded by photographers all wanting shots of her against the cool background. I was a bit cheeky and took a few of these too, but actually preferred this one.

Location 2 - La Bodega Negra, Soho, London

Please note for those who are now in deep panic...this is not a 'knocking shop/house of ill repute' but a Mexican restaurant, so you can breathe easily!

The fake 'sex shop' style entrance attracts much interest (and probably a fair degree of concern) and certainly has echos of a Soho of old. However, you'll find a great bar, cafe and restaurant should you venture inside.

It just so happens that there was another model shoot going on here too! It's as if they knew I would be there :) In the few minutes I stood there, loads of people stopped and posed for photos, so it seems it remains an ever popular SoHo spot.

Location 3 - God's Own Junkyard, Walthamstow, London

This is a favourite haunt of mine. A cool warehouse full of neon artwork in the East End. There's a cafe and they welcome people just coming for a look (although I'm sure they'd welcome some purchases even more).

Once again, I arrived to find this couple unintentionally posing for the shot. It seems neon brings people out everywhere!

In Summary:

I thoroughly enjoyed this challenge and there's plenty more opportunities for a revisit later in the year.

It’s also wonky but I know that’s a skill I’ve perfected
