Here we go!!!

So... the challenge is 3 photos worthy enough to be posted on a single theme each week for 52 weeks... Definitely not as easy as it sounds, so my rules state these can be on either my iPhone or the full-on camera. Chocks away!

Week One - Brutalism

Location 1 - The Post Office Tower

This week's theme is Brutalist Architecture. London has plenty of it and both the texture and the symmetry of these buildings really appeal to me.

Inspired by a birthday present, Henrietta Billings' Brutalist London Map and Simon Phipps 'Brutal London', location number one was selected - the good old BT Tower (originally the GPO/Post Office Tower).

It was my first time visiting this location and I was rewarded with great fast moving clouds and no passing traffic, so a long exposure seemed the way to go.

Some workers clocking off for the day decided to 'model' for me in front of it as they passed by which caused quite a laugh. I must have looked quite odd stood there armed with tripod and camera, but people have a habit of stopping and chatting to me so I guess this was to be expected!

Location 2 - Standard Hotel

This is one of my favourite buildings in London brilliantly refreshed in its latest incarnation. I just love that lift :)

Being vertically challenged, I had to lean somewhat awkwardly and precariously against a wall in the St Pancras car park opposite to secure this, gaining some rather odd looks from those wandering by. Certainly won't be the last time that happens...

Location 3 - The Wonderfully Named 'Sulkin House'

Sulkin House (Bethnal Green), designed by Denys Lasdun and built in the 1950s, is famous for using the 'Butterfly' layout. I'm not sure what it would be like to inhabit the place but it does look pretty imposing!

Someone had parked their Volvo right in front of the building, so I had to improvise with the composition, leading to more of those odd looks from the locals :)

In summary...

It was great being out with the camera and trying to shake off the 'bored and unmotivated vibe of 2021'.

To get this selection of photos took quite a few trips, locations and about 172 photos.

So, one week and one project down, fifty-one of each to go :)
